... for the greatest Batman show ever. And acknowledgment that Mark Hamill was the greatest Joker ever. It showed a dark and frightening Batman, and at the same time distinctly human. I loved the episode where Harvey Dent turned into Two Face. Heart of Ice (I still cry at the awesomeness of Batman saying "Good night, humanitarian"), Feat of Clay, and Old Wounds were also awesome. And unlike a lot of Batman stuff, it did not stop being awesome with Robin and Batgirl (you know, for all the flak that Robin gets, some of the best Batman stories involve Robin, e.g. Robin's Reckoning, Old Wounds, A Lonely Place of Dying). Batman Beyond and The Batman paled in comparison. Batman Beyond had a few decent episodes (and Return of the Joker blew my mind), but you know you have trouble when Bruce Wayne at 60+ kicks more ass than the active Batman. The Batman was just gimmicky, IMO. They made some of the minor characters better, e.g. Batgirl and Poison Ivy, but the main characters were terrible. I hated Bruce Wayne, and they seemed to think that Alfred was the only one who was allowed to have funny lines. Talk about your favourite episodes!

One of my favorite episodes actually is in Season 4, which despite a detrimental change to the artwork, has some great episodes. 'Over the Edge' is a Scarecrow-induced hallucination that Batgirl experiences after being knocked off a rooftop, where she dies and sees the world she would leave behind as Batman and Gordon tear the city apart fighting each other. I think it's brilliantly done.

I loved Over The Edge, hoping all the way that it wouldn't end the way it did, and finally when it did, I hated it. I mean, how cliched is that ending? And then she doesn't even tell her father? Not good.
You can also use this thread to talk about the travesty that is The Brave and the Bold, of which I have watched the grand total of half an episode, and was thoroughly disgusted, as though a Led Zeppelin song had been sung by Justin Bieber.
btw, I recently watched Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths, because hey, JL was a great show too (in fact, I thought JL would not be a good show, and JLU would suck royally, but as it turned out, they managed it well). The movie was really good for the most part. It's really surprising how BTAS, STAS, JL, and JLU all turned out so great.
My favourite JL episodes would have to be Wild Cards (Joker pwning the entire JL ftw), Starcrossed, the one where Superman gets shot into the future where Vandal Savage is the only surviving human (I think it's called Savage Time, but I'm not sure), and Secret Origins is not half bad.

I watched it all the time, but don't remember much. I do remember Mr. Freeze didn't use as many puns as his live-action Austrian counterpart, which could be considered a point in its favor.
On the other hand, WINTER FREEZE ICE

This show induced projectile vomiting from me in all directions, like in the Exorcist. I wouldn't watch it again. This thread is timely, because I've been going through the entirety of BTAS from the beginning. The darkness and the sophistication of the first episodes provided a strong foundation for the rest of the series. I sort of wish they weren't confined to the limitations of Saturday morning programming, rather like Justice League. I know Bruce Timm would have made it even grittier if he were allowed to. But this doesn't harm the series' status as a masterwork.

Batman villains and Gotham in general were banned from Justice League for some reason. I would have loved to see Ra's Al Ghul go up against the Justice League. Pic related.

In season 1, there's an episode called POV where 3 cops each give a story about their point of view having seen Batman foil a drug cartel. It's awesome.

McGinnis wasn't that great as Batman, but old Bruce Wayne was so badass, it made every episode enjoyable, and the action was decent too. I'm not sure I like where they went with Batman Beyond though. In Justice League, they continued the story with Terry and made him out to be a pseudo-clone, pseudo-son of Bruce Wayne.

I really liked Batman Beyond. I liked that it was darker. Was Terry a very good Batman? No, but really, Bruce never stopped being Batman. Terry is just his pawn, another tool on his utility belt for him to continue his war on crime. The show, to me, was never really about McGinnis. It continued being about Bruce Wayne as Batman.
In that episode where Bruce is hearing voices because Shriek implanted a device in his band-aid, he says he knew he wasn't crazy because in his mind, he never called himself Bruce. He calls himself Batman still, and always will.
What disappointed me is that the series was canceled on kind of an unfulfilling note. I expected the show to end at what I thought it was leading up to: the death of Batman. Bruce, sometime in the Bruce Timm animated universe, has to die. I was hoping the series would eventually cover that.

I am appropriating this thread for the discussion of general nostalgia.
First up: Pokemon. Just beat Red version again. No rare candies used, because I am a badass or just have too much free time, depending on how you look at it. I had fun naming my rival "Templar" and then watching as he pops up everywhere. After about ten years distance, the game holds up pretty well, although the difficulty curve is basically horizontal until you reach the elite four.

That's why I liked FireRed so much. It's my favourite by a long way. It has all the classic Pokemon elements, but with more modern graphics and abilities.
Actually, facing the Elite Four isn't a tough or balanced challenge. You need: Lightning Pokemon x2 Water Pokemon x2, including 1 with Ice moves Fire Pokemon x1 1 Pokemon with Bug OR Ghost move 1 Pokemon with Psychic OR Flying move
I remember I had Raichu, Charizard, Lapras, Moltres, Nidoking and Pidgeot. Not according to the specs I advocated, but I didn't really care. I hardly used Pidgeot and Moltres was only there because he had Legendary stats.
Raichu was my main Pokemon. Perfect for kicking the shit out of Lance and that first chick. Decent against ghosts too. Charizard got his ass whooped a little, but he's Charizard, so he's awesome (ditto for Moltres). He's decent against Gary and good against the Ice Pokemon. Lapras was another workhorse. Kicked the shit out of Gary, Lance and Bruno. He's awesome. Nidoking was my joker card. Knew a psychic move, a water move, a bug move and a 1 hit KO. Used him in all sorts of situations. Pidgeot was just there because I didn't have the patience to train another Pokemon to that level. Used him against the Fighting Pokemon while resting Nidoking.
I feel so ashamed now.

Ahhh I always thought Silver/Gold improved over Red/Blue in a big way (the 2nd gen Pokemon generally look as good as the 1st gen, and anyone who disagrees hasn't seen Exeggcute or Jynx). As such, I really can't get enough of Soul Silver.
